As I stirred a pot filled with wine, spices, and other fun things, people kept asking me what exactly is mulled wine. For those that don’t know, mulled wine is a warm, alcoholic beverage made with red wine and spices that is drunk during winter, especially around Christmas.
I like to describe mulled wine as a tight hug from someone you love. The warmness of the drink, and the flavors of the spices, make you feel cozy and relaxed. As a holiday gift to you, I am sharing my recipe for mulled wine.
Ingredients:
-
4 cups of apple cider
-
1 bottle of cabernet
-
¼ cup of honey
-
2 cinnamon sticks
-
1 orange
-
4 whole cloves
-
3 Star Anise
Directions:
-
Turn the stove on to medium heat.
-
In a big pot, add the apple cider, cabernet, honey, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and star anise.
-
Zest the orange using whichever tool you have handy. I use a grater.
-
Stir everything.
-
While the mulled wine heats up, cut the oranges for garnish.
-
Once warm, serve in a mug or foam cup and add an orange for more flavor.
